They are two sisters of a litter of five and are around five weeks old. Their mother is a mix of golden retriever and husky, while their father is a mix of German shepherd and pitbull. Based on their parents, they look like they will be medium-sized dogs. They've been on solid food for a little bit as mom weaned them about a week ago, and they've had their first round of shots.
I did not plan on getting a dog, let alone two, today. We had seen advertisements for a moving sale and Janelle suggested that I look for furniture (still looking for a desk and a dresser, and possibly curio cabinets and bookshelves). I didn't find the moving sale I was originally planning to go to, but stumbled on another one ... and they were offering free puppies.
To be clear, I sent Janelle pictures, she consulted the idea with both Alex and Katrina, and then both of us went to see the puppies again before making our final decision. I didn't just grab a couple of puppies and surprise my family with them (although Janelle was a bit shocked at my original text of "How many puppies do you want?").
The boys are ecstatic and Janelle has been quite mothering with these two girls. Getting the dogs definitely changed up our game plan for the day. Other than getting back into the workout habit, very little of my day went the way I thought it would.
Complete side note: on our way to pick up the puppies, Janelle and I came across a moose and her two offspring eating peacefully and playing in our yard. The mama moose started snorting when we slowed to take a couple of blurry pictures so we didn't stick around to get one in better focus.
