Honestly, the first episode of the season was enough to make me fall in love. The character of Captain Pike, and the remarkable performance of Anson Mount in playing him, is worth the price of admission alone. Meanwhile, all of the characters grew into more well-rounded and interesting people as this season ran its arc. Every episode had me wanting to watch the next one; and the season's conclusion has me excited not only for season three, but also for the spinoff Strange New Worlds that follows Pike and his tenure on the Enterprise before Kirk's arrival.
There are plot holes large enough to fly a starship through in this season, but the love and care for the characters and Star Trek lore that went into this season more than cover for it. After the first season, I had serious doubts about the future of Star Trek, but I now feel much more confident about its direction. Star Trek is a favorite franchise of mine, and I'm glad that Discovery is now on the right course.
