I was up at the normal time this morning so that I could work on clearing the driveway in an effort to get Janelle to work (spoiler: she did not go to work today). Poor Scarlet (my ATV) tried her best to help me plow out, but she was getting too hot from her exertions towards the end (not to mention often stuck). I don't think that she would have been able to do what she did today if I hadn't had her to plow those paths last night. I was still quite glad to have her as, not only did she push out the initial paths, but she was able to get me back and forth to the mid-sized tree that fell across our driveway. It was much easier to use the chainsaw that far away since I could drive there--I shudder to think of trying to wade my way out there.
After three hours of plowing and then shoveling, I came to the conclusion that we were not going to get out on our own. Janelle called a local (and licensed) snow plow specialist--who had a very long day and was not able to get to us until after six (well after dark). We did some more clearing later in the day to mark off our yard's boundaries for him. His front-end loader still took about 45 minutes to clear the drive--although it was a much better job than Scarlet and I could do.
The roads should be cleared, but our immediate road has only one lane--and that was made by neighbors who live farther down our road. They should be good once we get to the top of the hill. I'm still taking Janelle to Anchorage tomorrow for her, so I'm glad that I've heard that the pass is still good, but I plan on taking it easy.
I love snow, but this is enough for now. What? What do you mean, "There's another storm coming Wednesday?"
