With Janelle working tonight, it was up to me to play the solo parent, taking the younger boys to Trevor's concert this evening. Again, it was a combination band and choir concert that only lasted about an hour and a half. It was my favorite concert so far. There were plenty of entertaining songs and familiar tunes that kept both me and my younger sons diverted. Connor and Rowen were both very well-behaved, if a little wiggly. Connor even followed along with the music program and regularly updated Rowen and I on how close we were to the Pirates of the Caribbean medley. Aside from the Pirates of the Caribbean, the boys both really enjoyed "Splish Splash" (which had a costumed dance), a song that involved body percussion, and the music from the Lion King.
I am also spending a portion of my evenings studying my two required online courses to keep my Alaskan teaching certificate. So far, it seems to be pretty straightforward with little in the way of surprises. I'm hoping that future activities are a little more enlightening and feel less like hoops to jump through. It's not that I want extra work for the sake of doing work, but I would like to feel that I've gained something more than a piece of paper (or an electronic verification in this case) for the money and time these classes take.
I also need to spend some more time practicing the guitar, especially the chords Bm and F#m as they were the two most frequent chords that I didn't know to show up in the songs that I could otherwise mostly play. The songs on Sunday sounded fine (although we forgot to put up the correct numbers for the two communion songs, so one of them ended up being a solo as the rest of the choir went up for the Eucharist), but I know that I need to be able to do better if I plan on doing this more often (which several people requested).
I've also had a good couple of weeks with crossfit, but I've not been as good with my food habits as a result of being hungrier at the end of each day. I need to make certain that I don't slip into bad habits, especially since I won't be doing crossfit during most of the fourth quarter since I will be coaching hurdles. I think I will need to follow along with my students' conditioning if I want to keep the positive growth going. A few of us still plan on meeting at least a few days during spring break, but I haven't figured out a plan for summer vacation as of yet.
While it's certainly nice to no longer have the sale of our house in Michigan hanging over our heads, I'm really ready to find a more permanent (and larger) place to live up here. At the moment, we are just waiting. Hopefully, the next few weeks will see movement in the correct direction.
