There is something about the Star Trek serieses (with the exception of Enterprise, although the last season got pretty good) that no other show has been able to repeat (I almost said replicate). Perhaps it's the notion of a future where humanity has moved past so many of the problems that plague us today. Or maybe it's the optimistic view of the exploration of our universe. It could even be the idealistic, honor-bound heroes that the serieses brought to the screen.
Whatever it is, I miss it. Current television is so determined to be dark and edgy that, although there are some amazing stories being told, I often have a bad feeling in my mouth after watching it. I worry about the upcoming Star Trek: Discovery which has now been delayed multiple times to give them time to rewrite and reshoot portions of the show. I fear that the creators are going to try and make Star Trek into something that it is not (which is why so many Enterprise episodes fell flat). There are reasons Star Trek has such a following. They need to embrace them.
