I would very much like to see Rome, Florence, Venice, and other sites from Assassin's Creed II. Certainly, there are historical and religious reasons why I would want to go, but of all the video games I have played that are based on real-world locations, these are my favorite. I've heard stories of people who have traveled there for the first time and felt the familiarity for those places which the video game provided.
Similarly, I would like to visit Nagasaki, the site of the movie The Wolverine. Tangential to its historical significance in regards to nuclear warfare, Nagasaki represents a place of rebirth. Like other places in Japan, it bridges the past and the present in uniquely Japanese ways--which has long fascinated me.
Janelle had the opportunity to go to New Zealand and see some of the sites that are part of the Lord of the Rings films. I would very much like to see them for myself, and I'm certain that she would be willing to go with me. Similarly, on the other side of the world, I would like to take tours of the various locations used for the Harry Potter movies. They used a number of historic sites to patch together with movie magic the school of Hogwarts. As long as I was there, I wouldn't mind taking a tour of the manor that served as Downton Abbey too.
Probably the biggest one for me is the Grand Canyon. While I've technically been there before, I have no memory of it. It has long been the natural wonder of the world (let alone our nation) that holds me enthralled. Certainly, the fact that it is used in one of my favorite romantic comedies (Fools Rush In) probably has something to do with it as well.
I'm certain that if I gave it more thought, more would come to mind, but considering how little I've travelled during my adult life, I should probably keep the list small to start with anyway.
