Anyway, as a cap to this experience we (Rowen, Connor, and I) watched the movie of the same name today at the Orca Theater with other families from his school. The movie is was a critically acclaimed stop-motion animation film from the creative genius of Wes Anderson. I was not entirely surprised to find that I did not care for it. However, I kept that opinion to myself as I was surprised that both boys said that liked the movie even better than they thought they would.
For me, I didn't care much for the original story, and Wes Anderson's imagination and mine do not always see eye-to-eye. As much as I enjoyed certain moments of the film, there were others that bothered me. That said, I can appreciate why other people might like it; I just recognize that it does not appeal to my particular tastes.
Thus, I was expecting that Connor, at least, was going to also find the movie a waste of his time. Instead, he told me how glad he was that I had him come with us. Meanwhile, I thought that Rowen might be upset with how different the movie was from the book. However, he told me that he felt that the movie was almost a perfect version of the book as it had all of the main parts from it.
I suppose, then, that the entire experience was one for the "good" category of memories.
