Addiction to sin is a heavy burden that weighs us down, contaminating our relationships, interfering with our lives; however, it is also the path that we so often take. The temporary pleasures of this world seduce us away from the Way of Life that would make living so much better and simpler. This is what Jesus is telling us when he says, "Come to me, all you who labor and are burdened, and I will give you rest."
Sin complicates life. Lies and falsehoods require continual attention. The truth of the sin usually destroys our lives outright. Jesus is giving us a chance to rest from that destruction. As difficult as His Way seems to be, and as few people who follow it, He is presenting us the path that leads to the lightest burden and the greatest reward.
