I think that part of this is because we want to think of ourselves as special, that God is going to treat us in a better way than others. We are jealous of others receiving love that we believe we deserve. Such thoughts show a tremendous narrow-mindedness. God's love is beyond any human's attempts to box it in. God wants us to share our bounty with one another, not hoard it for ourselves.
In the revelations given to John, he sees people from all nationalities joined together in worshipping God. All of them, no matter their nation, race, or ethnicity were sheltered by God who provides for their every need. There are no quotas, no limitations to who can receive this gift. If we are to be more like God, we need to reach out to all people and allow them the chance to receive the greatness that we enjoy.
