As a special feast, Divine Mercy Sunday offers a plenary indulgence (a complete wiping of the ledger of our sins) if certain actions and states of being are taken and held. This includes renouncing sin (past, present, and future--even small one sins) with the intention of avoiding it, making a confession in the sacrament of Reconciliation, receiving the Holy Eucharist (preferably during a Holy Mass), and praying for the intentions of the Pope. Doing so today filled me with an inner peace that I had not realized I was lacking.
Like any type of cleansing, just being a human living in the world will likely tarnish the glow that I feel in the coming days without my even being aware of it. It's too easy to fall back into bad habits and to make poor decisions. Still, it's nice to recognize that there is something pure underneath that can have a chance to be seen from time to time. That truly is a Divine Mercy.
