Our pastor pointed out that Jesus' appearances after His resurrection often deal with food. It was when He broke the bread that the disciples on the road to Emmaus recognized Him. When He appeared to the group behind closed doors, He asked for some fish. Here again, He is making and sharing a meal. Jesus did not return to the temple and make proclamations in the middle of a service. Instead, He shows up in ordinary places, and takes part in the most human of tasks: eating.
Jesus is present in our lives at the most ordinary of times. There are many who are seemingly waiting for Him to charge out of the clouds in a spectacle that puts rock concerts to shame. However, Jesus comes to us in simple ways, often in guises that we do not recognize until well after the fact. He has come to change our lives, but not through forceful suddenness. Rather His changes normally manifest through subtle guiding, much like the changes that come when we eat healthier. We want it to be dramatic, but He wants it to be meaningful.
