In today's Gospel, Jesus' Apostles are arguing amongst themselves as to which of them is the greatest. Jesus puts them in their place by telling them that "If anyone wishes to be first, he shall be the last of all and the servant of all." Basically, He was telling them (and us) that they (and we) need to push or selfish egotism behind us and address the needs of others if we are to serve Him.
I find it ironic that in our current pandemic it is primarily people who claim to be Christian who are refusing to vaccinate or wear masks. While a few are claiming conflicting research to justify their selfishness, most are trying to frame their argument using lofty terms such as "freedom" and "individual rights." Like the Twelve, they are seeking to put themselves and their own desires ahead of others. It's a human response, but not a very Christian one.
