I shudder at the love such an agreement required. Jesus knew what becoming human meant. More than dealing with the day-to-day unpleasantries and human frailties, this meant death and all of its implications. Worse, Jesus knew before His choice what sort of death it would be. He knew all of the disappointments that He would face, all of the betrayals. He knew about what would happen after His death, the Crusades, the Inquisition, and other atrocities that would be committed in His name.
Yet He became one of us anyway, knowing that it doing so He was ensuring our salvation.
In the Gospel, the two sons are asked to work. One says no and then does the work anyone. The other says yes and then does not do the work. Jesus said yes and followed through.
