The first snowflake which indicates the change from rain to snow as I am driving on a dark, wet night. The reflected colors on the wall of a string of Christmas lights. A baby's giggle and sigh of contentment which clearly involves the whole spine and body. The sound of a pounding rain on our metal roof as I sit back in a chair with my feet propped, a book in hand, and a soothing drink nearby.
The feeling of a releasing weight as a major task is completed and there is still time left to work on something pleasurable. The sincere compliment of a person who enjoys hearing me sing. The anticipation of meeting a friend whom I have not been near for a while. Also, the feeling of relief when an awkward encounter has come to an end.
Immersing myself in the story of a novel, movie, or game that fully pulls me into its world and temporarily lets me see life through someone else's perspective. The smell of freshly baked bread as I slather it in butter. Watching my children play together without conflict among them.
Writing a list of things that bring me contentment.
