The second letter to the Corinthians makes these ideas clear, "your abundance at the present time should supply their needs" and later "Whoever had much did not have more, and whoever had little did not have less." Yet, for some reason, our current society is determined to vilify those who have the least, and instead give more to those who have the most.
Our pastor said that Jesus wanted to bring people together, yet our nations seem set to divide us further. Of course nations will not be as great as God since they are human institutions, but still, we should strive to be better. Rather than building walls, we should be building bridges. Humans hold more in common with one another than our politicians, our news sources, and troll-worthy memes seem to indicate.
Jesus would have us heal one another, support one another, and embrace one another. It's not easy. But doing the right thing rarely is.
