The first was Mission Impossible: Fallout. It was everything one could want in an blockbuster action movie. Janelle was not as impressed and felt that the movie was a bit too predictable, even with its twists. I thoroughly enjoyed it; however, I feel that I would have liked it more if I had seen the last three movies recently. This was the first of the series to really connect back to the other films, even if it only went back as far as Mission Impossible III. Perhaps this might make for a good future movie marathon.
The other movie was Paddington 2, and I have to say that it was one of my favorite movies of the year. Paddington's unflagging optimism even in the worst of circumstances is an invigorating change of pace in our current world. The story is absolutely ridiculous, but somehow appeals to adults as well as children without resorting to double meanings. The wide variety of British celebrities in the cast is alone worth watching. I found myself smiling throughout and belly-laughing on more that one occasion. Although seeing the first movie (which is also quite good) helps with the stage, I feel that one could watch this one without ever seeing the first.
For me, the final determining value of a movie is how willing I am to watch it again. In both cases, I look forward to my next viewing.
