Nor is that the only writing convention that has required some adjustment on my part. The one that bothers me the most is that I'm supposed to sum up my chapters by describing what I had already written in the chapter by saying things such as "I then demonstrated how the conceptual frameworks of TAM and the theory of gamified learning influence my research questions." I hate writing like that, and try so hard to break my students of that sort of essay narration. Yet, for dissertations, it's the expected form.
I'm going to be so glad when this is done.
