This weekend has both a TV show and a movie that I've been looking forward to seeing, but for which I have also reserved a bit of skepticism. The TV show is the first 3 episodes of the new Wheel of Time series. I have been hoping for a TV or movie adaptation of this series by Robert Jordan ever since Brandon Sanderson completed it over eight years ago. The series debuts on Amazon Prime on November 19th, the same day as Ghostbusters: Afterlife arrives in theaters. I do plan on taking the boys to see it this weekend.
The Hawkeye TV series lands on Disney Plus on the 24th of November with its first two episodes. This is a short series (so they can end its Christmas story before Christmas), but the trailers have really sold me on it. I particularly like the feeling I get that it will pay tribute to my all-time favorite Christmas movie: Die Hard.
From there, it is a couple of weeks until season 6 of The Expanse debuts its first episode on December 10. While season 5 was not my favorite, I still love this sci-fi series--to the point that I just finished the second book in the series of novels on which the TV series is based. I cannot wait to see what season 6 has in store. It is arriving on Amazon Prime.
Only one week later, the most anticipated movie of the year (for me) hits the theaters: Spider-Man: No Way Home. This is a film which I might just watch on opening night. My anticipation for it has only grown since its newest trailer hit the Internet yesterday. I'm almost afraid that my expectations are beyond what this movie can provide, but everything I see for it only makes me want to see it more.
On that same day, season 2 of The Witcher also comes to Netflix. I am tempted to take that following day and just binge the whole thing. Janelle and I recently rewatched the first season to refresh our memories, and I think I liked it even better the second time.
On the 22nd of December, The Matrix Resurrections arrives in theaters. I am a HUGE fan of the first movie, but its sequels were … lacking. Whether I see this one in the theater or not will depend on what sort of reviews I see about it as it comes closer to release.
Finally, The Book of Boba Fett comes to Disney Plus on December 29th. Personally, I love the idea of ending this year and starting the next with a Star Wars story--especially one with Ming-Na Wen in it.
Season 4 of Star Trek: Discovery recently started, but as it is on Paramount Plus (to which I have not yet subscribed), and we have not seen Season 3, I only mention it in passing as a show that I would also like to see.
Wow! That's a great entertainment line-up!
