John Wick was just an excuse to show a lot of people getting shot in the head. The movie barely has a plot, which can be fine for some action movies, but it was a little too much for me this time. Meanwhile, the Expendables 3 had the opposite problem: too much talking, too little action. Again, I like good dialogue, but the angst in the film was a little too heavy. That said, there were some great action pieces near the end, but we had to wait almost two hours to get to them.
I guess that I've started to expect too much. Movies like Knight and Day, RED, even the latest Captain America movie have upped the ante on action movies, giving great scenes in with both action and dialogue. While the two movies I watched this weekend both tried to have that perfect mix, I feel that they took themselves too seriously at the wrong moments. Neither are anything that I need to watch again.
I guess that I'm still waiting to have that itch scratched.
