Despite my personal feelings about the importance of elections like today's, it's clear that not many people share my sentiment. As the voting administrator went to highlight my name, she flipped through pages and pages of names with no highlighting. The workers there commented on the low turnout. I understand some of the reasons why. Several of the seats were unopposed. Meanwhile the school board seat had four candidates, but finding useful information about them took more effort and time than I expected. There really should be a better system for presenting issues and candidates before elections. I feel that the news agencies often drop the ball in favor of more sensational headlines. In today's data age, there should at least be a central forum with links to relevant information from a variety of sources.
Still, I eventually found what I was looking for (with the help of a colleague), so I guess I shouldn't complain too much.
