I don't know why I'm so excited, but I am. Likely, we will have problems traveling anywhere for at least a couple of days, and there is a serious possibility that we could lose power as many of the lines are still heavy due to the snow, ice, and sub-zero temperatures. Still, I'm almost giddy with anticipation. I've always been fascinated by storms in general, but winter storms and blizzards truly fill me with awe.
It helps that Scarlet (my ATV) is back under my carport and in working order. I did a victory lap or two after bringing her home, and then I made sure her plow was hooked up and ready to go. Granted, I will probably need to do at least one mid-storm sweep of the driveway so that she does not get overwhelmed should the upper amounts hit us. For the record, we are sitting right on the line between Sterling's projected 12 to 18 inches and Soldotna's projected 18 to 24 inches.
I am concerned about school on Monday. It seems more and more likely that we will have a snow day which will certainly complicate an already confusing finals week. Similarly, I also don't know what it might mean for Tuesday, as we are currently scheduled for appointments in Anchorage--for which I already got a substitute teacher.
This storm will likely cause issues with our newly positioned StarLink as well. I was quite upset to not see much of a difference after we went through the harrowing adventure of placing it near the top of our garage roof today. However, it apparently rebooted while I was off picking up Scarlet and it seems to be running much more smoothly since then. It still has its dropped signals, but I'm deeply hoping that those will decrease once it finishes mapping its new location. We won't know until tomorrow morning--and who know how the snow will affect it then.
Thus, I understand multiple concerns that this storm brings with it, yet I am still filled with an almost childlike hopefulness that this storm will be magnificent.
