After weeks of hearing my son complain about the computer shutting down after an hour or so of use, I finally managed to get an install disc of Windows 7 (the computer didn't come with it's own back up discs and didn't have a system restore point far back enough). The past 24 hours has been filled with frustration as I did not have the forethought to back up the computer's drivers. Well, I kind of didn't back them up on purpose as I was concerned that one of them might have been the problem.
It's difficult to install drivers on a computer that has been wiped and can't identify that it has wifi or ethernet adapters or that can't seem to remember that it has USB ports. I spent a lot of time looking at download screens and Windows recovery screens. I stayed up past 1 AM working on it and started again at 9 AM this morning. As of about 1 PM, I seem to have it working. I just hope that the blue screen of death issue has been solved.
