I found these readings to be appropriate for this weekend for we spent this weekend in (and near) Kansas City because of the memorial for Janelle's Aunt Mary who recently passed away. I never met Mary, but I watched as many people testified to her importance in their lives. She had kept the seriousness of her illness a secret between herself and her husband, so her death came as a sudden and unpleasant surprise to the rest of her family. Their grief was evident, but they spoke about the positive influence that she had on the lives of those around her.
I had nothing that I could share or add, but I am glad that I was there. Despite the tragic circumstances, it was nice to meet Janelle's extended family and for most of my children to get a chance to meet their cousins. I hope that Mary's family can take solace in Jesus's promise of everlasting life and that their grief helps to restore and strengthen them.
