When we moved into our current house a little over two and half years ago, we noted that all of the appliances had one issue or another that would require repair or replacement soon. ... And we waited.
The biggest offender was our dryer which had an alarm that didn't work, but would sound off randomly when drying even with the alarm set to "off". It then started snagging pillow cases, twisting laundry loads, and leaving dark marks behind that required special attention to get rid of. This was particularly bothersome when setting up the bedding in the cabin on quick turnaround days. However, it wasn't until our washing machine started rocking for no apparent reason and our stove/oven started having issues with one of its burners that we knew we had to take action.
We waited until the sales started coming in anticipation for Black Friday. Home Depot had specials on the appliances we were looking for as well as an accumulating bonus for each appliance bought together. On top of the washer, dryer, and stove, we also picked up a larger refrigerator (the other one was largely serviceable with some broken drawers and a defunct ice maker, but we thought it would work better as a back-up cold storage in our garage) and a microwave (with the new stove being stainless steel, we thought the white one we currently had would look out of place--that and the fifth appliance received an additional $150 off so it really didn't cost much).
Today was the day that they all arrived. We were told that they could be delivered anywhere from 6am to 8pm, so we cleared out cupboards and most of the freezer yesterday. This morning, I moved all of the old appliances out of their spots and cleaned areas that hadn't seen cleaning since before we moved in.
The delivery truck didn't get here until after 4pm and was loaded and unloaded until after 6pm. Installing the microwave was my greatest challenge, and one of the overhead bolts did something strange so that it does not tighten entirely but will also not come out past halfway. Thankfully the bracket is sturdy and the other bolt hold perfectly, but I'm still irritated. We ended up not eating dinner until about 8:30.
It's now past 10:30, and I just finished swapping which way the dryer door opens. It's been a long, but rewarding day. I didn't have the time to take any pictures. You'll have to ask Janelle for those.
