Our dishwasher was really upset at being the only major appliance not replaced in our house last week. In a fit of tantrum, it started to refuse to work last night. I believe that the sensor on the door latch is malfunctioning. We are able to trick it into doing a single load if we unplug it long enough for the electronics to reset to their factory settings, plug it in again and quickly start it. According to the Internet posts that suggested this workaround, the dishwasher will only fall for that trick for a week or so before dying out entirely.
Thus, Janelle and I took a romantic evening trip to Home Depot. Unfortunately, our first three choices were not in stock (6-8 weeks to arrive) as they have cleared out much of their inventory due to the recent specials. Thankfully, the fourth choice had one left. It's still a well-rated model, but it's missing some of the Janelle's preferred additions such as a third shelf for utensils and an easily adjustable top shelf.
The new dishwasher is now in our dining room, peeking around the kitchen island at the grumpy dishwasher that it's replacing. I'm not looking forward to deinstalling the old and installing the new as my language tends to suffer when I work with any kind of plumbing. Fortunately, the two dishwashers are nearly the same make (just the newer one is ... well, newer) so hopefully I will not be exposing my family to colorful language for too long.
