Now, I hate keeping secrets, and I'm not very good at it. Thus, when Peter Maurer asked for my permission to ask my daughter Katrina to marry him (I didn't make it easy for him), I had a hard time not blurting it out to the entire world, much less keeping it from her for a week. Later, when he asked and she said yes, I was then told that I couldn't post anything about it until they had a chance to tell certain people directly. It's been two days and I have finally been given the "go ahead" to tell the Interwebs that they are now officially engaged with the plan to marry at some point in the summer of 2018.
I am quite happy for the two of them. It has been a pleasure getting to know Peter during the time that Katrina has dated him. He is a man of integrity who goes to mass regularly, works hard, and appreciates science fiction and board games; honestly, what else can I ask for in a son-in-law? Sure, sure, it's probably a bonus that he's in love with my daughter ...
Anyway, if you see Katrina, make certain you compliment her on the ring ... er, engagement. This is one of those times that Janelle and I would have liked to be with her to celebrate, but we will have to wait until we see her at Christmas.
