The temperature has been well below freezing for a while and has even been dipping below zero from time to time. The wind chills are in the area where school children are closely watching the weather. Had school been scheduled this past weekend, it most certainly would have been cancelled. People are bundled up and quickly shuffling from car to building.
I'm loving it.
This is one of those times where I revel in the technology that we humans have acquired. While everything outside is frozen, we have created our own environments indoors that allow us to walk around in comfort. I think back a hundred years, or two hundred years, and wonder how people made it through times like these. It makes me certainly appreciate our era.
That said, there are dangers too. One of my friend's water pipes that lead to his house have frozen. Numerous accidents occur when people don't take the road conditions seriously. And should we somehow be left without our wonderful technology, it does not take long at all for us to freeze pretty badly.
Yeah. I miss Alaska.
