However, these last few weeks were surprisingly low key. With the level of overload that I faced so often the rest of the school year, I felt almost like I was at the end of an adrenaline spike as the year slowed to its close. Looking back, this year felt like it was two separate school years overlaid on the same calendar. Thus, it seems like we've reached the denouement of an epic tale where the heroes come home after so many wild adventures and the comfortable normalcy of their old lives seems to no longer quite fit.
I had plenty of highlights today as students stopped by to talk one last time before the break. I particularly enjoyed watching (and interjecting) as our new Dungeons and Dragons Support Group played a cute one-off adventure during the activity section of the day. I already miss some of my students, probably more so because we had so many interruptions while trying to get to know each other.
I'm glad this school year is over, and I need some time to recoup and recover. However, I do look forward to starting the next year, and hopefully having a chance to not just return to normal, but to take some of the lessons I learned this year and make the coming one even better.
