Part of our reason for coming down for this brief trip was to help Alex move to an apartment near her residency. Thus, today we got up early, picked up a U-Haul, packed it with everything in her old apartment, drove over an hour to her new apartment, and unloaded everything before driving the U-Haul back to drop it off. There were several highlights:
1. Janelle started the day realizing just how red her new hair color is. Be sure to compliment her. She’s so fiery!
2. U-Haul has a LOT of hidden fees. I had forgotten how clever they get.
3. We had some excellent sushi for lunch … and dinner.
4. When their crates were finally opened, one of Alex’s cats refused to leave hers while the other one joined the first cat so that they were sharing a crate.
5. It was HOT and HUMID, making me clearly remember why I moved to Alaska.
6. Katrina’s decision to help move some of the boxes while so obviously pregnant seemed to motivate one of Alex’s new neighbors to give us a hand towards the end.
7. We nearly re-enacted a scene from Friends with a sofa and a staircase. It was not funny.
8. On returning, our cars had to severely slow down to deal with an absolute deluge despite the sun shining. Honestly, the weather was simply recreating my personal condition.
9. We played Catan by placing our starting settlements and roads “blind” (with all of the hexes turned over). It was an interesting game.
10. Peter, Janelle, Katrina, and I have now each won a game of Catan on this trip.
We leave here and arrive home tomorrow. It’s been a whirlwind of a trip!
