Rather than get the inches of snow that were a possibility a few weeks ago, we have instead received days of rain. Temperatures have been approaching forty; however, that does not keep water in a liquid state when there is this much snow and ice already on the ground. Instead, we find ourselves in a continual thawing/refreezing cycle. Rather than just have icy roads, this makes it so we have freshly zambonied icy roads.
Right now, cat litter and sand are our best friends. Without them, intersections, parking lots, and driveways are experiments in frictionless surfaces. Many people today shared their stories about how they slid off or nearly slid off the road. For me, that was two times trying to turn into my driveway in the afternoon and once while parked waiting for the boys at their bus stop.
Yes. While parked. I was out of the car, talking with one of the other parents when Mera decided to raise our heart rates by beginning to slide a bit on her own. Thankfully, she did not move far, but the experience gave me my aerobic exercise for the day.
The forecast has that snow we were promised in the elusive future. I certainly hope it doesn't pull another bait-and-switch on us.
