In today's homily, we were asked to focus on the joy present in each of today's readings and songs. Gaudete Sunday is next week, making this a good time to get in some rejoicing practice. However, our lives are not always filled with events that make us want to rejoice. Tragedies can still abound, and it is certainly right (and even necessary) to react to them with the appropriate emotions of sadness and anger.
Still, we need to recognize the joy around us as well. More importantly, we need to bring the Lord into our lives to both help us find that joy and to celebrate it properly. True joy is greater than any one of us, and God's presence can help us find joy through the greatest of struggles.
