The liturgical year comes to an end with today’s celebration of Christ the King. Considering my love for the democratic republic of the United States, it feels strange to still worship a king, but I do. I feel that Christ is truly a democratic king. True, He is king whether we “vote” for Him or not; however, He is truly interested in gaining our “votes.” He does so without coercion, only offering His eternal love as His campaign platform.
Following Christ is about embracing truth. While many malign or misuse His message for their personal gain, Jesus’ truth remains the same and allows for love and acceptance in return for being loving and accepting. He is a king who lives among the most destitute and downtrodden. He is a king who shares His riches with everyone.
He has my vote.
