I know that it's a little funny to complain about traffic in a place like Soldotna, Alaska, but traffic the past few days has been the most congested that I've ever seen it here. Dip-netting opened this week, and people flocked here even with the rainy weather. Yesterday, it took me over thirty minutes for what was normally a twenty minute drive--and that's without any construction or accidents to bar the way. I lost almost four minutes waiting to make my left turn onto the highway.
Freddy's and Safeway have been similarly congested. Meanwhile staff shortages and sick calls are making an overworked staff deal with a situation of increasing tension. Just stopping in this morning for a few things demonstrated that peoples' patience was wearing thin.
It's only going to get worse these next couple of days. Not only will more people be down because of the weekend, it looks like we've just come out from under that long-standing low pressure system and that sun will be on the way. Beautiful days on a weekend when the fish are running for dip-netting mean that we will be seeing some bumper-to-bumper traffic for the next few days.
