Much of the day in advance was spent getting the place and food ready for guests. Afterwards, we watched The Lost City of Z ... and regretted doing so. It's not that it was a terrible movie as it was well constructed; it just wasn't good. It lacked the power, and even interest, that good "based on true stories" can have. Its inconsistencies between the true story did not help the plot, and most of the characters felt more like caricatures than real people, especially the lead. I do like that it gives attention to an area of history, and the world, that is so often ignored, but it did so without a strong theme or feeling of better understanding.
It doesn't help that I felt the whole time that we should have been watching The Force Awakens in anticipation for seeing The Last Jedi tomorrow. However, I need to return The Lost City of Z to the library on Monday, so tonight was our best chance to watch it. That said, my anticipation for the new Star Wars movie is quite high. We plan on getting to the theater well before the showing so we can get tickets--not to mention seats together. When I looked at the option of getting tickets online, they wanted to charge an extra $1.25 a seat, with no guaranteed seating arrangement. So far, I've managed to avoid any spoilers. With that in mind, I plan on avoiding social media from this point until we see it.
Other points of mention include the fact that we once again got rain rather than snow today--boo!, we received an Amazon order that included about 8 new expansions to Carcassonne--yay!, and Janelle gave the boys and me haircuts--stylin'! I also still have some grading as well as some homework of my own to do this weekend. It's amazing how quickly a weekend fills up.
